Chad
B/L Print Requirements
Mandatory text on Ocean B/L
- • BESC Number, 6-digit HS Code, and consignee NIF mandatory on B/L.
- • Coastal discharge port must be stated with mandatory transit notation: "Cargo in transit to Chad via Port of [Douala / Kribi / Cotonou] at consignee's risk and expense".
- • Ocean freight must be prepaid.
COC-Tchad BESC number and consignee NIF must appear on the final B/L and manifest. The transit clause ("In transit to Chad via Port of [Douala / Kribi / Cotonou]") must appear in the goods description field.
Inspection & Certificates
Pre-loading inspection & filing
- • BESC must be validated via COC-Tchad portal prior to vessel departure.
- • Mandatory Certificate of Conformity issued by accredited inspection bodies prior to loading for regulated commodities.
- • Electronic Prior Import Declaration domiciled via commercial bank before shipment.
- • CEMAC T1 transit bond generated at coastal port.
Cargo & Standards
Labeling, vehicles & packaging
- • Passenger vehicles: maximum 10 years from manufacture
- • Right-hand-drive vehicles are strictly prohibited.
- • French or Arabic product labeling mandatory on all consumer commodities.
- • Official Veterinary Health Certificate mandatory for all imported meat and poultry products.
- • Motor vehicles older than 10 years face elevated customs valuation minimums.
- • ISPM 15 wood packaging compliance strictly enforced at border corridors.
- • ISPM 15 heat-treated stamp required on all wooden packaging.
Shipper & Consignee
Where this destination differs from standard practice
- • Foreign consignees are not accepted — a locally-registered entity must be named.
Consignee must be a registered Chadian legal entity with an active NIF. "To Order" B/Ls are permitted provided the Notify Party is the registered local buyer or licensed transit broker with full physical address in N'Djamena, local phone number, and NIF stated on the B/L. PO Box only is rejected.
Non-Compliance Risk at Destination
Transit bond rejection at the Douala/Kribi corridor border without a validated COC-Tchad BESC. Regulated cargo arriving without an origin Certificate of Conformity faces destination testing holds and penalties at N'Djamena.
